It would be great if the order confirmation email could display the pre-ordered product with a note saying 'Your pre-ordered item is estimated to be dispatched on the {date e.g. 01 Feb 2019}. You will receive a shipping confirmation email as soon as it is dispatched.'
This is good for the customer and will reduce the number of customer service enquiries.
